Solar Heating - Professor''s house aces eco-examination

A Scottish University professor has cut her heating bill to just £5 per year - thanks to her early adoption of energy-efficient heating solutions.
Sue Roaf, professor of architectural engineering at Heriot Watt University, commissioned her home in Oxford in 1995, using what were at the time cutting-edge heating systems.
As a result, she has been able to keep her home cosy and welcoming for a fraction of the cost of the standard outlay for heating a similarly proportioned six-bedroom property, the Scotsman reports.
Ms Roaf's home is able to achieve its remarkable energy-rating thanks to fitting household appliances, such as Vokera
boilers, that she says are "double the efficiency" and by using solar panels.
She said: "I installed the first solar electric roof in the UK and it is the best thing I did in terms of a sensible investment. Every year it generates more electricity - because the summer appears to be getting longer - which I can then sell. I am pretty certain that I will soon be making a profit."
Heat and Plumb stocks an extensive range of energy-efficient boilers including the much lauded range from Trianco as well as models from Vokera and Baxi.
