Solar Heating - Solar panels and efficient boilers to be fitted in schools
20/12/2007
Solar panels, biomass
boilers and wind turbines are to be installed in Britain's schools in a bid to cut carbon emissions, it has been announced.
Ed Balls, schools secretary, announced the move as part of 200 projects intended to cut energy use for which around £200 million of government funding has been earmarked.
This includes making all school buildings carbon-neutral by 2016, with each secondary school granted around £500,000 to fund the improvements.
Commenting on his plans, Mr Balls said: "We are taking action now to reduce carbon emissions in new school buildings while we work towards the zero carbon goal."
Before undertaking any improvements schools will consult with members of a government task force, who will in turn gather information from construction companies and local authorities to devise action plans.
Heat and Plumb sells a range of green energy solutions through which you can work towards making your home carbon-neutral.
These include energy-efficient boilers from Trianco and Vokera as well as Worcester's Greenskies state-of-the-art
solar heating system.
