Towel Rails - Towel care tips from an expert
15/01/2008
Homeowners can extend the life of their towels by abiding by some simple rules, according to a professional product tester.
According to Stephen Treffigner, who puts products through their paces for Domino magazine, towels can be kept looking good and fluffy by taking care when washing them.
In particular, Mr Treffinger recommends towels are washed and dried at a low heat and no bleach should be used.
He told the Seattle Times: "Heat and bleach both break down a towel and make it meet its end sooner. If you're addicted to bleach-whitened towels, use bleach only every few washes."
Also recommended is the use mild detergents and skipping fabric softener, since this can damage the fibres of the towel and make them less absorbent, he said.
