Water Heaters - DIY enthusiasts do not always do it themselves
As the UK plans to use the Easter weekend to take care of the odd DIY job like fixing the kitchen sink or tinkering with the water heater, research shows that we are not as adept as we think.

The survey by Saga Home Insurance reveals that 29 per cent of homeowners expect their partner to help them with improvements to the bathroom, kitchen and other rooms, while 19 per cent have given up entirely and call in a tradesperson.

People in their twenties are most likely to ask their parents for help with DIY, with 29 per cent admitting to this.

Some of those who have tried to do it themselves have had to call in someone to fix their amateur work, with 37 per cent of 18-24-year-olds needing to use a professional.

In the over-50's group, however, 90 per cent reported that they have never needed a tradesman to correct their DIY efforts.

Also highlighted in the research is the need to be careful, with 28 per cent saying they have suffered some kind of injury while carrying out DIY.

Halifax Home Insurance research showed that Brits spend over £670 million a year fixing botched DIY jobs, according to EAPHome.ADNFCR-1168-ID-18517193-ADNFCR
