Bradford university seeks green boiler
A cutting-edge biomass boiler will be installed by the University of Bradford, as it attempts to reduce its carbon emissions, it has been reported.

Currently the university's three gas-fired boilers release around 13,000 tonnes of carbon into the atmosphere each year, according the Bradford Telegraph & Argus.

The new £327,000 boiler is expected to reduce this amount by around 500 tonnes a year and reduce the university's £2.5 million fuel bill.

Russell Smith, estates manager for engineering at the University of Bradford, told the paper: "As part of our ecoversity programme, we are committed to managing our carbon emissions and energy consumption."

He also revealed that, in addition to the new biomass boiler, the university will set further targets to go beyond the renewable energy and environmental goal set by the government.

The boiler, which is expected to be operational by September, will be fired by wood chips and feature a viewing platform so students can observe it working.

Environmentally-friendly boilers available to the general public, such as modern condensing boilers from Vokera and Baxi, allow homeowners to save on money and carbon emissions.
