Condensing Boilers - Savings to be made with condensing boilers27/05/2008 The benefits of installing a condensing boiler have been highlighted in an article in the Guardian. Noting that boilers cause 60 per cent of domestic carbon emissions, the article explains that installing a new unit can contribute to the UK's target of low emissions. Traditional non-condensing boilers were around 75 per cent efficient, the article notes, compared to the 90 per cent efficiency that can be achieved by today's condensing systems. Benefits other than saving the environment are also revealed, with the estimations suggesting that a new boiler can save a household up to £303 a year in fuel bills. This means that a boiler costing £3,000 will pay for itself in just ten years, while further savings can be made through installing effective heating controls, including a cylinder thermostat and thermostatic radiator valves, to the system. According to the Energy Saving Trust, almost half of the UK's carbon emissions come from everyday domestic activities, such as overfilling kettles and leaving lights and heating on unnecessarily.  |
