 Fires and Heaters - Oil heating is cheaper than electricity04/09/2007 Heating a home with oil is more economical than using electricity, a leading industry figure has claimed. According to an independent study commissioned by the Oil Firing Technical Association (Oftec) and conducted by Sutherland Tables, the average cost of heating a three-bedroom house with electricity over the last five years stood at around £1012. However, were you have to heated the same property using oil-powered heating the average cost would have stood at just £727. Moreover, Oftec claims, using an oil-based heating is also cheaper than using liquefied petroleum gas LPG condensing, which it says costs on average £1223. Barry Edge, Oftec marketing manager said: "The new data proves that oil is still the most attractive and viable fuel option for the many homes across the UK who don't have access to mains gas." Using oil heating is also more convenient, since oil is easier to store than wood pellets, Mr Edge added.  |
