Heating Controls - ''Be aware of heating control requirements''

13/05/2008

Homeowners should be aware of the regulations surrounding the heating systems, a heating and plumbing organisation has said.

The Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (IPHE) advised that people should seek help from professionals who have knowledge concerning the area, rather than attempting to install appliances such as radiators and boilers themselves.

Explaining the need for systems to have heating controls, Danny Davis, senior technical engineer for the IPHE, said: "New and replacement central heating systems are required to have independent time and temperature control of both central heating and hot water heating, and the temperature of individual rooms should also be controlled by thermostatic radiator valves."

Heating controls are useful to a household, as they can set the time that a boiler heats water for domestic use, as well as warming different rooms at different times of the day to fit in with a family's routine, say the organisation.

Mr Davis also reminded homeowners that new central heating boilers should be condensing units, which are more efficient that traditional systems - converting more that 88 per cent of their fuel into heat, according to IPHE figures.
