Heating controls for dumb appliances

23/05/2008
Dimplex has unveiled a heating control unit that allows homeowners to manage a wide range of appliances including towel rails, it has been reported.

The new radio-controlled unit features a programmer with an LCD screen and a remote unit that is sited near to the appliance, such as a radiator, according to Buildingtalk.

According to the publication: "A backlit LCD screen with power-save mode makes programming easy to see and saves energy when not in use, while a clever memory function makes sure that settings are saved in the memory for 12 hours in the event of a power failure."

The heating control unit allows the homeowner to keep energy use and running costs under tight rein by providing four programmable time periods, while a version of the system allows seven-day programming, meaning weekday and weekend settings can be created.

One of the more unique features is the unit's ability to give thermostatic control to so-called 'dumb' appliances that do not come with a built-in thermostat, such as towel rails, the publication reveals.

With a history spanning 60 years, Dimplex manufactures a range of heating solutions, including heat pumps, solar water heating and electric fires.
