Warning over winter boiler turn on

Britons have been warned that they could face paying out large sums of money this winter as they turn their heating systems back on for the first time since the start of summer.

Price comparison service uSwitch.com has warned that as much as £64 million could be spent on boiler and heating system repairs this winter.

The company explains that many people who switched their boilers back on in October faced problems because their heating system had lain idle for the summer months.

Ann Robinson, director of consumer policy at uSwitch.com, said: "At the very least, consumers should consider the old saying that prevention is better than cure – even if you cannot afford cover it is still important to have your boiler inspected once a year to try and avoid problems before they occur. Failure to do this could damage your health and your wealth."

If uSwitch's research is correct, many people across the UK will be looking for new boilers in the near future.
