Plumbing - IPHE: Use professionals for big jobs

09/05/2008
The Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering (IPHE) has warned against homeowners carry out repairs to that they are not qualified to do.

As the professional body for the sector, the IPHE does not recommend that homeowners undertake DIY projects to heating and plumbing systems and advises that they seek professional help.

Danny Davis, senior technical engineer for the organisation, said: "As far as energy efficient improvements to plumbing and heating systems are concerned, such improvements are not as straight forward as the replacement of a light bulb, for example."

He also revealed that using a professional to correctly install boilers, radiators, heating controls and the like can result in increased energy efficiency, at the same time as protecting members of the public from possible harm.

The Institute of Plumbing and Heating Engineering, which was founded in 1906, represents the interests of its 12,400 members.
