Radiators - Wise use of radiators to cut energy bills

15/05/2008

Efficient use of radiators and heating controls are key ways of saving money in the face of rising energy bills, a recent article has claimed.

After the announcement that power bills are set to rise, the Daily Mirror has published a range of tips to help home owners lower their energy costs through simple steps.

One of the ways highlighted is to avoid using radiators in rooms that rarely need heating, such as kitchens.

The newspaper recommended: "Turn down radiators in bedrooms and in rooms that heat up naturally from the sun or from cooking.

"There's no point paying to warm rooms that are already hot."

Another way to slash bills is to turn heating controls down by one degree Celsius, which can lead to savings of up to £70 a year.

Bathrooms are also noted in the advice, with homeowners told to recycle 'grey water' from showers and baths and use it to flush toilets or water the garden.

The Energy Savings Trust advises homeowners looking for new products, such as boilers, to ensure that they show Energy Saving Recommended logo, which proves they have meet energy-efficiency criteria.
