Baxi looking for old boilers

Heating specialist Baxi launched the search for the UK's oldest boilers, as part of a competition.

The firm has asked people to reveal the age of their boilers, with the owner of the oldest receiving a best-in-class high-efficiency Baxi Duo-tec Combi 28 HE unit.

Lee Robinson, Baxi's customer service director, commented: "Older boilers may convert as little as 60 per cent of the gas they use into useful heat, meaning higher fuel bills and more greenhouse gases."

He also revealed that new condensing boilers are much more efficient and reduce a home's gas bills by almost 40 per cent, or £150 a year for the average semi-detached house.

The competition comes on the back of recent Baxi poll which discovered 68 per cent of UK homeowners have a boiler that is ten years or more old, while three per cent do not know how old their system is.

In related news, the firm has also revealed work at its technology centre in Preston has increased the energy efficiency of its boiler ranges.

The Baxi Platinum Combi, Duo-tec Combi and Megaflo System families now have a 91.1 per cent or greater SEDBUK rating.
