Research: A sauna a day keeps the doctor away
19/12/2007
Taking a sauna is one of the best ways to keep coughs, colds and associated aches at bay this winter, it has been claimed.
According to a 1989 study cited by US news provider the Morning Sun, people who head to a sauna twice a week are likely to suffer half as many colds as those who do not.
The research was inconclusive as to how a sauna helps, but it is thought that the act of inhaling air heated up to temperatures of up to 80 degrees means that cold and flu viruses are killed off.
The study's claims that
saunas boost health and wellbeing add to medical reports and users testifying to the meditative effect of making a regular trip to a steam room.
Medical authorities have also noted the positive effect saunas can have on the treatment of muscular strains, arthritis as well as respiratory complications and sinusitis.
Heat and Plumb sells a range of infrared saunas as well as other health-promoting home fittings such as
whirlpool baths from Phoenix.
