Baxi calls for renewable energy promotion

02/07/2008
Boiler manufacturer Baxi has called on the government and industry members to move the UK towards renewable energy sources.

Speaking to the Associate Parliamentary Renewable and Sustainable Energy Group, chief executive of Baxi UK Mark Kelly pressed for more work to promote the benefits of renewable energy technologies such as heat pumps, biomass boilers and solar water heating.

He also reminded the panel of the benefits of combined heat and power (CHP) boilers, which are an energy-efficient way of generating electricity and heat.

Mr Kelly said: "The government has promised much with its renewable energy strategy consultation, but it must not forget low carbon technologies such as micro-CHP.

"We now look forward to the introduction of real policies, including financial incentives and the setting of targets to provide some certainty."

The firm also said the new Baxi Ecogen CHP boiler will be on the market next year.

Last month, Baxi launched a new liquefied petroleum gas boiler, which achieves efficiency ratings of 93.2 per cent.
