Stem tide of water wastage by replacing taps'' washers, says CCW
Homeowners can cut their water wastage by making simple and cheap to carry out improvements to their taps, it has been claimed.

According to the Consumer Council for Water (CCW) simply replacing worn washers on bathroom and kitchen taps can yield savings of up to 25 litres of water per day.

Meanwhile, for an extra outlay of purchasing state of the art water-saving eco taps such as those from Pegler, even greater savings can be made, the CCW said.

The CCW issued the tips as part of a series of recommendations for UK homeowners who have made it their New Year's resolution to do their bit to cut down on water waste and minimise climate change.

Among the other CCW-endorsed practices are putting a brick in the toilet cistern, which it claims can save up to two litres of water with every flush - and equates to saving of 23,000 litres of water per year for the average family of four.

Meanwhile, investing in a watering can to harvest rainwater for your plants rather than using a hose is also a good way of cutting wastage, the CCW said.

Heat and Plumb sells a range of bathroom and kitchen taps with which you can cut your water wastage, including stylish models from Deva as well as tap accessories from Hudson Reed.
