Underfloor Heating - Under floor heating helps home achieve top eco-rating

An energy-inefficient 1920s house in Birmingham has been transformed into one of the country's most environmentally-friendly homes.

The three-bedroom terrace family home was refurbished by the Bourneville Village Trust to show that the carbon-footprint of older homes can be improved just as effectively as with newer properties, 25dash.com reports.

That the project was a success is born out by the fact that the government has awarded the property one of the few 'excellent' ratings in the UK.

Bourneville Village Trust achieved the improvements by fitting the home with a number of alternative heating and energy solutions, including underfloor heating powered by a ground source heat pump and solar panels on the roof.

Alan Shrimpton, one of the trust's members, said: "People are trying to play their part and it only needs small scale changes from all of us to do to have an overall impact.

"The small things can add up to an enormous difference."
