Underfloor Heating - Under floor heating helps school to top eco-rating

A soon-to-open school in Derbyshire is the most environmentally-friendly educational building in the whole county, it has been claimed.

The £3.7 million Herbert Strutt primary school attained the accolade, thanks to the builders' decision to recycle material from the building that had been on the site previously and the incorporation of a host of green energy features in its design.

These include underfloor heating instead of radiators and solar panels on the roof, Belpernews.com reports.

Meanwhile, a 20,000-litre water harvesting system collects rainwater from the roof to be used in toilets.

John Murdy, headteacher at the school, said: "The new school is amazing with lots of great features. Everyone is excited after visiting the site. It really is going to be a superb 21st Century school and will provide our children with a wonderful environment in which to learn and grow."

He added: "We are very privileged and this is a flagship for eco schools in Derbyshire and for others to aspire to."
