Air source heat pumps ''would slash CO2 emissions''

28/11/2007

Increased use of air and ground source heat pumps could significantly cut Japan's CO2 emissions, it has been claimed.

According to a study called Heat Pumps - Long Awaited Way out of Global Warming conducted by the Heat Pump and Thermal Storage Technology Center of Japan ((HPTCJ) use of heat pumps could slash ten per cent off the country's total emissions.

In fact, simply by using these in residential buildings, the country would be able to exceed targets set by the Kyoto Protocol Target Achievement Plan, the trade body claims.

The study follows findings from the International Energy Agency predicting that if ownership of air and ground source heat pumps stood at around 30 per cent worldwide it would cut emissions by six per cent.

This equates to a saving 1.2 billion tonnes, the IEA said.

Heat and Plumb offers a range of air source heat pumps including Trianco Activair models as well as host of other green energy solutions such as Baxi Solarflo Megatech indirect unvented domestic hot water systems.
