Shower Pumps

A shower booster pump helps to boost the water pressure in your home. Shower pumps are rated in bars - the higher the bar, the more pressure you will get. They are available in several different formats, but the most important two variables to consider are whether you need a positive or negative head, and whether it's a single or twin impeller. What is a Shower Pump?

It may not be the most exciting part of having your bathroom re-designed, but that doesn't mean that a shower pump isn't important. In fact, a shower pump can make the difference between a lacklustre shower and one that is jam packed full of power!

They are installed and used to enhance the performance of a shower, making sure that it performs at high velocity. This is ideal if you need a shower that wakes you up in the morning, and gets you ready for the day.

The Benefits of a Shower Pump

No-one likes the idea of a shower that is lacking in power, dribbling out water flow at a slow rate. This is why a shower pump is an ideal solution. They may very well be necessary if you want to install a more modern shower into your bathroom, one that is going to rely on a good level of water pressure in order to work.

Rather than having to invest in a new shower, or take off tiles in order to install one, a shower pump offers up a sensible option. With their help your shower can receive anywhere between 3 and 6 gallon of water each and every minute. If you consider that a low flow shower head only uses 2 gallons per minute, then you can see why these are a popular addition.

Installing a Shower Pump

There are two different types of shower pumps that you can install in your home, and the one that you choose will have an impact on where you install it. Both types need to be installed horizontally, on a stable and flat surface. This often means that people decide to install them in the loft or perhaps in a basement space if they have one

A single impeller pump mixes the hot and cold water together after it has passed the mixing valve in the shower. This means that it will need to be located close to the shower, and is the type that is most often found in loft spaces.

A double impeller pump is often placed nearer to the water heater, although they can be more flexible as they do not rely on the mixing valve within the shower unit.

So, if you are faced with a poor performing shower, rather than spending out to buy a brand new unit, you could look at whether a shower pump may be the better option. Not only are they lower cost, but they are also easier to install. Which means that they are a great all round choice!
