What are the Worst Bathroom Habits?

The bathroom is by far one of the more private parts of your home; however, despite this, it is also the part that gets used the most and by the most people. When you think about it this way, it makes sense that there are going to be a variety of bathroom habits that might not seem so bad to you; but actually could be having an impact on your family and any visitors to your home too.

So, what are the worst bathroom habits out there and what makes them bad?

Using your phone on the toilet

One bathroom habit that many people are guilty of is sitting on the toilet; scrolling through your phone. Whilst it makes sense to check out social media whilst you have a spare 5 minutes, you could be putting yourself in touch with lots of germs.

This is because the germs that are part and parcel of going to the toilet (we are talking about faecal matter here) are released even though you are sat there. These will then land on any surface that they come into contact with, which includes the screen of your phone.

Not washing your hands properly

We all know that once we have been to the toilet, we need to wash our hands. But, how many of us actually do it? Hand-washing is one of the simplest defences that we have against sickness as well as transporting your own bathroom germs which can then be transferred to other people. That said, it is surprising just how many people don't know how to properly wash their hands or forget to wash their hands completely.

You need to wash your hands with plenty of soap and warm water and the entire process should take at least 20 seconds.

Using bar soap

Whilst bar soap is proving popular for showering (and is great for reducing the amount of plastic that ends up in our environment) when it comes to hand washing in the bathroom it isn't necessarily the best idea. Bar soap can actually harbour more germs than you realise; which means that when you pick it up to wash your hands, you could be rubbing more germs onto your hands than you wash off.

It is a much better idea to use liquid soap on your hands as this will ensure that you minimise the risk of contamination and will keep your hands nice and clean too.

Not switching the hand towel

Most of us will have a hand towel in their bathroom that is to be used after you wash your hands. What you may not realise is that these towels can actually be a breeding ground for germs (especially if you have a busy family or you have young children in the house). Considering how quickly the germs can build up on these towels it makes sense that one thing that you need to do is change them on a regular basis.

If you don't change your hand towel more than once a week then you might be quite surprised by just how many germs will have already called it their home.

Improper cleaning of the toilet

We all know the purpose of the toilet in our homes, so it makes sense that the toilet is going to be a little on the grubby side from time to time. The thing to remember about toilets is that it is much better to regularly clean them than to leave it and give it a “big clean” stains will build up over time and they can be pretty tricky to get rid of. Even with top quality products.

It is a much better idea to make an effort once or twice a week and clean your toilet. In doing this you will soon find that it is nice and clean and that your family and your guests will be more than happy to use it.

These are just some of the worst bathroom habits out there. If you think that you are guilty of any of these then you might want to consider changing what you do, instead of making sure that you have a clean and inviting bathroom that everyone will be happy to use.
