FAQs About Kitchen Sinks
Measure the internal width of the cabinet underneath the sink space, from the inside of the left side panel to the inside of the right side panel. This internal measurement dictates your maximum available space. A sink bowl cannot be wider than this opening, so ensure the sink's minimum base cabinet size specification does not exceed this measurement before purchasing.
It depends on the type of laminate. Standard laminate worktops cannot be used, as cutting the hole exposes the internal chipboard core to severe water damage. However, solid-core compact laminates are waterproof throughout and compatible with undermount installation when correctly routed by a professional. Otherwise, granite, quartz, or solid wood solid surface worktops are the standard choice.
A reversible sink allows you to position the drainer on either the left or the right side to suit your kitchen layout. The final orientation is determined by which way you rotate the unit before securing it into the worktop and installing your kitchen taps. This built-in flexibility ensures the sink perfectly matches your available counter space and daily workflow.
It varies by product. Most kitchen sinks include the strainer waste and overflow fittings in the box, but the plumbing kit - the trap and pipework that connect the sink to your drainage - is almost always sold separately. Always check the individual product description to confirm exactly what is included before purchasing.
It depends on the type of wear and tear. Composite sinks are extremely dense, offering superior resistance to everyday surface scratches, water spots, and heat from pots and pans. Stainless steel is highly hygienic, easy to clean, and resilient, though thinner gauge models can dent under impact and show surface scratches more readily over time. A severe impact can potentially chip a composite sink, which is worth considering. Both materials suit busy kitchens - the right choice depends on your priorities.
The main difference is how they sit relative to your worktop. Inset sinks drop into a cut-out with a visible rim resting on top, making them compatible with all worktop materials. Undermount sinks mount beneath the surface for a seamless finish but require a solid surface worktop. Belfast sinks are deep, exposed-front ceramic units that require a dedicated supporting base cabinet.
