FAQs About Doc M Packs

A Doc M Pack is a complete set of bathroom sanitaryware and fittings designed to comply with Document M of the UK Building Regulations. These packs provide everything an installer needs to create a safe, legally compliant, and wheelchair-accessible washroom for disabled users in commercial or public buildings.

While kits vary slightly, a fully compliant pack must include a raised height toilet pan, a specialized cistern with a spatula lever flush, a wall-hung basin, a sequential mixer tap, and a minimum of five heavy-duty grab rails. Many trade packs also include a TMV3 blending valve to prevent hot water scalding.

Yes. If you are fitting out a commercial property, public space, or workplace, the Equality Act 2010 dictates that you must provide accessible washroom facilities for staff and visitors. Installing an approved Doc M pack ensures your bathroom meets the strict criteria required to pass a UK building inspection.

To comply with Document M regulations, the toilet pan must sit higher than a standard domestic toilet. The required measurement is typically 480mm from the finished floor level to the top of the toilet seat. This specific height matches standard wheelchair dimensions, allowing users to perform a safe, lateral transfer onto the pan.

A close-coupled unit has the cistern bolted directly to the back of the pan, which saves valuable floor space in smaller cubicles. A low-level toilet features a slightly separated cistern connected by a flush pipe, creating a padded backrest that gives wheelchair users extra support. At Heat and Plumb, we supply both configurations to ensure your installation meets exact site requirements.
