Thermostatic Taps
Thermostatic taps feature a thermostat that regulates the temperature of your water flow. By constantly monitoring the temperature, the thermostat can adjust the intensity of the hot and cold water supplies until the balance is perfect. They are safer than traditional taps, thanks to removing the risk of hot or cold bursts. This is especially beneficial for basins, where a sudden burst of hot water could lead to scalding while washing your hands. They are also helpful while filling a bath, especially if you're already bathing in it. The thermostatic element inside the tap reacts to the temperature of the water, growing or shrinking and moving a piston in order to adjust the flow of hot and cold. Many modern thermostats feature an automatic shut-off when either the hot or cold supply is interrupted, helping to protect you from accidents.
Shower Baths
Shower baths also benefit greatly from the addition of a thermostat. Safety Regulations
Since the introduction of the TMV2 (Thermostatic Mixing Valve) scheme across the UK in 2010 and the restrictions imposed by Document G, the temperature of water outlets is limited to 48 degrees C. This applies to all new builds, as well as any existing property undergoing renovation work and is intended to make bathroom use safer for people of every age. A thermostat is an excellent way of staying within this limit, restricting the temperature of your water flow and keeping users safe without any significant modifications to your property. As they limit the maximum temperature, thermostatic taps are suitable for private, commercial and healthcare use and ensure a consistent water flow.
